A short video promoting the concept of CreationSocial, an open-source, alt-tech alternative to Facebook that will hopefully go online by the end of the year.

CreationSocial: The Open-Source, Alt-Tech Alternative To Facebook

2:27 There's the problem that while the code is Open Source (and that way, transparent), if you run it on your server as a service, there's no way for a user to inspect what code you're running. If the Open Source licensing were done right, namely released under GNU AGPL license, you would at least legally be obliged to provide the code of the instance you're running (primarily for modifications you made), but if you were a bad actor, there's not a lot of ways for a user/visitor to tell, especially if modifications are subtle/minor. Unfortunately, the "Open Source Social Network" project came up with their own custom license, which is generally a bad + risky idea, and I can't read it and check if it has copyleft + provisions to avoid the SaaS loophole.
