Some people mentally are already living in a delusion-based reality, and humans usually always take the path of least resistance or pleasure. I don't think it's a stretch to say that one day people will really be living in a virtual world and having this completely alternate life that will be more fulfilling (on the surface at least) than the real life they have.

I don't think it's that much of a stretch either, especially when you factor in that rebellion against God. They're being indoctrinated into thinking that man's created worlds (virtual worlds) are better than God's created world.
